Once again, it is our joy to invite you to worship with us this Sunday, August 30, and to join us for our International Lunch following our 10:30 a.m. service. The Folk Band will lead our worship music, and those of you who have heard them know of their inspiration and power as they lift all of us to praise God together. And at our now-famous International Lunch, there is always plenty of food from around the world (Pakistani biryani, Italian meatballs, Southern fried chicken!) for you, your family, your friends and neighbors � come one, come all!

We begin at 10:30 a.m. with our informal, family Service of Holy Eucharist at which everyone is welcome to the Lord�s Table. No matter what your denomination, ethnicity, nationality, culture or language, we are one body, a new community in Christ. There are Sunday School activities for all ages, and infant care provided for your children for the first part of the service, and the children join us for Communion. And then we have lunch together. If you have a favorite dish to share with us, bring it and we�ll enjoy it with you. There is always enough for everyone so even if you can�t, don�t let that stop you from joining us.

Our website, www.ctke.org, has directions to Christ the King. There is plenty of parking right outside the Church with easy accessibility for everyone. I look forward to welcoming you and others you bring with you this Sunday morning.

The Awareness Course

Citizens of Two Kingdoms: Life in the Global Village is the first of a six-part educational program that provides an opportunity to explore Christianity in the context of Islam and Judaism. It will be offered from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday evenings, September 9 through October 28, at St. Martin in the Fields Episcopal Church, 3110 Ashford Dunwoody Dr., Atlanta, 30319.
The 8-session "Citizens" course, developed in England, will be presented in 90-minute sessions by the Rev. Mary Erickson, associate rector at St. Martin's, and the Rev. John Sewak Ray, vicar of Christ the King Episcopal Church, Lilburn. Sponsoring the course is the Diocese of Atlanta Institute for Ministry and Theological Education.
The Awareness Course is written from a Western as well as a Middle Eastern perspective, reflecting Christianity's original culture. Its goal is to allow participants to understand and apply their own faith in a diverse world, free from fear and prejudice. It would be especially helpful for anyone leading a class on interfaith relations.

Charting a Course for the New Normal

Everyone agrees we are living in uncharted economic waters. Now more than ever it�s critical that faith communities convene multi-generational conversations to help alleviate fear and anxiety and also inspire and motivate youth and adults in the choices they make with money. Faith communities have a unique opportunity to offer forums for conversation with a hopeful message and practical tools that youth and adults can use to rebalance their money habits in ways that honor their values.

Families, Money & Habits: Raising the next generation

By all accounts, the current economic crisis is now second only to the Great Depression in the toll it is taking on individuals, families, communities and organizations. A recent study by the American Psychological Association found that 75% of all adults in America list money as the number one source of stress in their lives. And if it�s impacting adults, we know it�s also being felt by children and youth. Communities of faith have an opportunity to heed the call of leadership and in turn offer hope and guidance for those among us who are living through or are soon to face some very challenging times.

In this highly interactive, action-orientated presentation, participants will:

� Develop a deeper awareness of cultural trends and issues in today�s radically shifting financial landscape;
� Discover new ways to communicate about money and values with children, youth and adults;
� Help families develop a financial decision-making process that honors each person�s values and sets clear financial goals that include saving and sharing;
� Receive take-home tools to use with youth and adults in their community.

Teenagers are welcome! They will join The Rev. Ken Struble, Director of Camp Mikell, on a 'research field trip" to Lenox Mall in the afternoon and report back to the adults with their findings.

Living Your Faith through Mission

The 5th Annual Diocese of Atlanta Global Mission Conference is Oct. 3 at the Cathedral of St. Philip, 2744 Peachtree Road, Atlanta.

The conference will feature keynote speaker David Myers, Ph.D., of the Diocese of Central Pennsylvania, and interactive workshops exploring the Millennium Development Goals. It will close with Holy Eucharist. See agenda.

Participants may bring displays that reflect their parish's global mission experiences.

Registration fee is $15 and covers materials, lunch and refreshments.

Unlike so many events in the Church Calendar which date back centuries, the Feast of Christ the King is a twentieth century celebration. At a time when national socialism was sweeping over Europe and totalitarian regimes were beginning to overshadow the globe, the Church instituted this Feast of Christ the King to emphasize and to remind the world of God's eternal kingdom of love and peace. Our uniquely named multi-ethnic congregation in the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta seeks to be a living example of this truth in our world today. Come and worship with us on this special day.
